The former Brazilian leader has been detained after authorities determined he posed a definite escape threat while under domestic detention.

The one-time leader was convicted of plotting a armed takeover in the ninth month and given more than over two decades in prison, but he remained under confinement pending legal challenges.

High Court Judge the presiding justice said the move to detain the septuagenarian politician was a preventative measure after fresh information came to light.

This included attempting to break his tracking device and a invitation to a public vigil that could "allow for a chance to flee".

Legal Document Reveals Escape Concerns

In a paperwork permitting the custody, the magistrate said intelligence from the facility tracking Bolsonaro's house arrest suggested the former leader's "intention to break the electronic ankle bracelet to ensure success in his flight.

His offspring, Flávio Bolsonaro, who holds office as a congressional representative, called for a meeting of his supporters near the former president's residence to take place on Saturday night.

He said the demonstration would be so followers could seek divine intervention for his health and for the return of democracy in our nation."

Diplomatic Refuge Fears

They also requested that he be permitted to exit his dwelling for medical care, saying he required regular treatment for pulmonary infections and other ailments.

Background on Conviction

Bolsonaro was determined responsible of orchestrating a plot aimed at keeping him in power after he was defeated in the national vote to his political opponent, President Lula.

At the moment, the legal team called the 27 years and three months sentence extremely harsh.

He was also banned from seeking elected position until 2060 - eight years later after the conclusion of his imprisonment.

The ex-leader called the trial a targeted investigation" and said it was intended to stop him participating in the 2026 presidential election.
